Becoming a NAATI certified translator requires passing a rigorous examination conducted by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters. Candidates must demonstrate advanced language proficiency in both English and the target language, as well as a thorough understanding of translation techniques, terminology and cultural context. The certification examination tests a translator's ability to produce accurate, complete and natural-sounding translations across a range of document types.

Only translators who pass this examination are authorised to produce NAATI certified translations. This process ensures a consistent and high standard of quality across all certified translations in Australia.

What Makes a Translation "NAATI Certified"

A NAATI certified translation is more than just a translated document. To be considered NAATI certified, a translation must meet the following requirements:

• The translation must be completed by a translator who holds a current NAATI certification in the relevant language pair
• The translated document must include the translator's NAATI certification number
• The translation must bear the official NAATI translator stamp
• The translator must sign a declaration certifying that the translation is a true and accurate representation of the original document

Without all of these elements, a translation cannot be considered NAATI certified and may not be accepted by authorities.
